Peel off the shipping sticker.
Slide the cartridge into the ION device with the label side out and the 9 scent actuators facing the inside of the ION device. There is a slot inside the ION that will receive the connector on the side of the cartridge.
Make sure the cartridge is all the way in the device. When you connect it, you may or may not hear it click into place. If you don't hear the click press firmly, making sure the elastic strap is not bunched up under the cartridge.
In order for the ION device to function, it must be connected to a wifi network. In order to do this, we have provided a battery-powered networking device (wireless hot spot labeled HooToo). Hold down the power button until the lights turn on and give it 30 seconds to start the network.
The WiFi hot spot is providing only a wireless network, it it NOT connected to the internet. The internet is not needed for the demo to function. However, you may notice a message inside the headset that says "An Error has Occurred" This message is actually ok, the headset is trying to inform you that it does not have a connection to the internet, you can ignore this message if you see it.
The Quest and ION should both connect automatically.
For quick and easy set up, please watch this video on how to set up the oculus quest. The important contents are 3:52 to 8:00 min. - https://youtu.be/pVFcsedWsKE
You won’t need the Oculus app on your phone. We’ve configured the device to our account, and demo environment prior to sending the headset and device to you. Please note that you will not be able to Chromecast the headset feed as this is done through the app.
It is important to become acquainted with setting up The Guardian. The Guardian designates boundaries for the playspace to ensure safe movement while playing the game. Please skip to 5:00 mins into the video for set up instruction. If there is a duration of inactivity while not wearing the headset, the Guardian will need to be confirmed again; the headset has a sleep mode, which is activated after a duration of inactivity, via a light sensor on the top of the inside of the headset. (see below)
NOTE: If you already have a quest headset and have opted to receive an ION device only you will need to configure the ION to the same Wifi network as your headset. In this case, OVR will be providing you with a link to our OVR Engine and another link to an APK to sideload onto your quest.
Sideloading instructions are here - https://www.howtogeek.com/673311/how-to-sideload-apps-and-games-on-your-oculus-quest/

When first putting on the headset, you will be asked to set up a playspace/guardian. For the OVR demo, it is not necessary to draw a boundary as the stationary usually works well. It is important to know how to do both in case there are issues. There will be prompts to guide you through the process but please make sure to focus on the following:
Turn the Oculus Quest on via the power button on the right side of the headset
Once inside the home space--which will look super cool--please press the controller’s "oculus" (home) button to access the main menu (see pictures below).
After the Wi-Fi connection has been established, remove the headset to set up the OVR device. Take the OVR device out of the case and flip the switch on the bottom side to the ON position (see below). Then strap the device to the headset so that it’s centered on the base but not touching your nose.
From there please put the headset back on and navigate to the app library and once in the library please look over in the upper right-hand corner drop-down menu to look for “unknown sources”. In this location find our demo entitled “OVR Vignettes”
Keep about 4ft of space around the person playing the demo, otherwise, headset tracking may break down.
Connect a USB cord into the USB port located on the left side of the ION, recessed behind the logo. Make sure the USB cable is connected to a power source such as a computer or USB charging plug.
Set the switch on the bottom of the device to "I" to enable the battery and turn the ION device ON. The switch will also need to remain in the "I" position while charging
If the switch is set to the "0" position the ION Device will not charge.
(Updated 03/02/2020 with important information regarding disinfectants recommended based on the current SARS-CoV-2 / COVID-19 recommendations.)
Before sending the demo equipment out, be assured OVR Technology has sanitized the HMD (Head Mounted Display) and the ION scent device. Once the demo equipment is returned we will immediately sanitize it again before its next use. OVR Technology has chosen this cleaning product in adherence to recommendations from the EPA on the proper disinfectants against SARS-CoV-2.
We have included a few disposable face-covers that loop over the user’s ears and serve as a barrier between the user’s skin and the headset foam. (See image). These should be disposed of after use and/or should not be shared. Please can return any UNUSED face-covers.
During your use, we recommend that you wipe the mask cushion and inside the ion device between switching users. We have provided some single-use 70% alcohol prep pads in the demo kit you received for wiping down the cushion and inside the device between users. Make sure the whole thing gets nice and damp from the wipes, then leave them to air dry. Don't use your headset until everything is completely dry, or else you're just introducing more microorganisms to an already wet environment.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT USE LIQUID CHEMICAL CLEANSERS OR THE INCLUDED ALCOHOL PREP PADS ON THE HEADSET LENSES / EYE-PIECES. The lenses require special cleaning, which OVR Technology does before sending out the demo kits.
And whatever you do, do not put your headset in direct sunlight to dry. It's tempting, as UV rays are great at disinfecting things, but it will cause irreparable damage to the headset's lenses.

Ensure the floor calibration is actually on the floor. To lower the floor plane, place the right controller on the floor.
If you only have a few feet of unobstructed space, you can create a stationary boundary. However, if you have more room while standing then draw out the perimeter of the playspace (~4ft by 8ft) using the controller. When you’ve completed the perimeter, a grid will pop up and you can confirm the boundary.
In order for an optimal OVR Demo experience, make sure there is proper head tracking (6DoF). When you rotate your head and walk within the environment, the headset will seamlessly track your movement. If that’s not the case, the headset will have displayed an error and it will feel like a TV screen is attached to your head (3DoF). If so please perform the setup again in better lighting.
The light sensor will determine if the device is put to sleep based on when it senses light for more than 30 seconds. Once the device is sleeping it will need to find its boundary again. If it can not find the boundary it will ask you to calibrate the playspace again. This can get annoying if you are doing back-to-back demos and we have found that taping the light sensor will trick it into staying on for the time that you are doing the demo, and making it easier to take the headset on and off frequently.
Avoid demos in environments that have lights with a mesh pattern. The lights shown below turned out to be really troublesome for the Quest’s tracking algorithms.
