The ION Admin App is used to view and configure settings on the ION 2.0 Scent device, such as Scentware cartridge calibration, battery status, and scent burst counts. It can also be used to conduct over-the-air (OTA) firmware updates.
The Admin app works with 2nd generation and later ION scent devices. It is NOT compatible with the ION 1.0. To configure settings for the ION 1.0 please visit the OVR Engine Documentation
Download and install the ION Admin app from the iOS app store or the Google Play store.
Upon opening the ION Admin app, it will try to automatically find and connect to any ION scent device in the vicinity that is powered on, looking first for the last ION paired with the app.
If the app finds multiple devices or needs to be connected manually you'll then automatically be forwarded to the manual connection page. From there please select the device you'd like to connect.
if the app does not detect any IONs present, the app will continue to scan, but prompt you to turn your device on. If your device is not on (the LED on the front of the device is not illuminated) hold the power button, located on the bottom of the ION for 3 seconds.
Once connected the app will forward you to the device status page where you'll receive information about the device and about the cartridge that you have inserted.
The Main Menu is always available on the upper right-hand side of the screen represented by 3 horizontal lines.
From the Connect menu item, you can disconnect an attached ION device, or connect a different ION device. You will be prompted to connect via Bluetooth (BLE), and then presented a list of IONs that the app found, differentiated by their serial numbers -- these serial numbers are also printed into the bottom of the ION devices themselves. From this Connect menu in the app, selecting an ION device will begin the connection process seen above.
The Device Status Screen is the first screen you are taken to when you connect to an ION device. It will tell you information about the ION device itself, and the cartridge that is currently inserted. In addition to the name and version information, you can find the battery level and the relative scentware levels for each cartridge scent chamber.
The Scent Calibration screen under the Main Menu, will allow you to manually "fire" the Scent tubes for testing purposes, and it will also allow you to adjust the scent intensity for the cartridge.
OVR sets the scent intensity right in the middle by default, but through the app, it is possible to raise or lower the scent intensity on a scent-by-scent basis.
These settings are stored on the individual cartridge and are only set for that cartridge. If you have multiple Scentware cartridges you will need to set the scent intensity for all your cartridges. Please remember that everyone's sense of smell is slightly different, and while it is possible to raise or lower the scent intensity, OVR recommends that you leave the scent intensity in the middle for most people's sense of smell.
For testing purposes, you can also use the Scent Calibration screen to manually fire the individual scent tubes by clicking on the appropriate arrow on the right-hand side of the screen. Tapping the arrow will give an individual burst of scent, holding the arrow will give a continuous burst from that tube.
Selecting "UPDATE" from the drop-down menu in the upper right-hand side, will check the OVR servers for the latest ION Firmware.
If a new version of firmware is present, you will be informed and asked to enter your WiFi credentials. The WiFi credentials are temporarily entered into the ION device, and the ION begins to download and install the new firmware.
The WiFi chip on the ION Device supports 2.4 GHz WiFi networks only.
While there is a progress animation in the app, the ION is temporarily disconnected from the app during the download and install process. When complete the ION will turn itself off. (The light on the front of the ION will go out)
Once you re-boot the ION the firmware update will complete and the app will auto re-connect to the ION, taking you back to the Device Status Screen.
